Applied research of the pentobarbital sodium in miniature pigs without endotracheal intubation anesthesia
Abstract:
[Abstract] Objective To explore the efficacy and safety of the pentobarbital sodium in the miniature pig anesthetic model without endotracheal intubation. Methods Twenty miniature pigs were randomly divided into group A(n=10) and group B(n=10). Group A was given 3% pentobarbital sodium injection, and group B was given 5% ketamine injection to perform anesthesia and the same operation without endotracheal intubation. The anesthetic effect, surgical effect, vital signs and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results The anesthetic and surgical effects were satisfying in both of the two groups. The induction time of group A was significantly longer than that of group B[(10.76±1.50) vs (8.73±1.15)]. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the weight, breathing rate, heart rate, anal temperature, pulse, oxygen saturation, and recovery time(P>0.05). No obvious adverse reactions were found in group A. There were some adverse reactions in group B during the anesthesia, including more secretion of saliva, higher muscle tension and chew phenomenon, and intraoperative vomiting in one case. No dead case was found in the two groups. Conclusion Both pentobarbital sodium and ketamine can be used for anesthesia in the miniature pigs without endotracheal intubation. Pentobarbital sodium is more safe, economic and convenient for the anesthesia.
