Abstract:
[Abstract] Patellofemoral osteoarthritis is a common degenerative disease of the knee joints among middle-aged and elderly populations. The main manifestations of patellofemoral osteoarthritis include anterior knee pain and difficulty in going up and down stairs. In recent years, the incidence of the disease has been on the rise year by year, which not only seriously affects the quality of life of the patients but also imposes a significant economic burden on society. At present, there are many treatment methods for patellofemoral osteoarthritis, but individualized treatments are still in the early stages of the research. Biological therapy, as an emerging therapeutic approach, exerts therapeutic effects through promoting cartilage regeneration, regulating immunity, reducing inflammatory responses and secreting bioactive substances, and gradually becomes a research hotspot in the treatment of patellofemoral osteoarthritis. In this paper, the research progress of biological therapy in treatment of patellofemoral osteoarthritis is reviewed.
