Abstract:
Objectives: To investigate the effect of using individuated training based on simulating real-word situations in occupational therapy (OT) as a treatment on rehabilitation of core characteristics on children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Methods: 80 ASD children visited Department of Rehabilitation, Beijing Children’s Hospital during May 2025 to April 2026 were randomly selected and divided into control group (n=40) and observation group (n=40). The research lasted 3 months, during which, control group received routine OT training, while observation group accepted activities designed on individuated training based on simulating real-word situations. The severity of ASD symptoms and self-care abilities were evaluated by the Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC) and pediatric evaluation disability inventory (PEDI) at the beginning and the end of the therapy. The decreased scores in ATEC and increased scores in PEDI among assessments were considered as training effects. Results: Comparing ATEC and PEDI scores of the end to the beginning of therapy, both groups received obviously improved (All P<0.001). Comparing to control group, both of ATEC and PEDI scores manifested significantly improved in observation group when treatment finished, while ATEC scores (t=2.488,P=0.015) and PEDI scores (t=-2.359, P=0.021). Conclusion: Using individuated training based on simulating real-word situations in occupational therapy in ASD children can help them relieving symptoms and improving self-care abilities.
