Abstract:
[Abstract] Objective To analyze the publication output, collaboration patterns, knowledge base, and thematic evolution of the studies on internal carotid artery associated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods Articles and reviews were searched in the Web of Science Core Collection(WoSCC) database from its inception to July 14, 2026. Bibliometric and visualization analyses were performed using R 4.5.2 and VOSviewer 1.6.21 softwares. Results A total of 253 publications were included. The annual publication volume showed a fluctuating upward trend from 1989 to 2025, with a third-order polynomial fit yielding an R2 value of 0.865. China ranked first in publication output. Collaboration networks at the national, institutional, and author levels exhibited clustered patterns. Five clusters were identified based on high-frequency keywords, and 3 clusters were formed based on co-cited references, which primarily involved radiation-induced internal carotid artery injury, carotid blowout syndrome, and the treatment of recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Conclusion The overall publication volume in this field shows a fluctuating growth trend. Research themes are primarily centered on the identification of vascular injuries, management of severe hemorrhage, and the assessment and protection of the internal carotid artery during the diagnosis and treatment of recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
