Abstract:
[Abstract] Objective To investigate the effects of sodium aescinate on cell count, protein content and intracranial pressure in cerebrospinal fluid of patients with tuberculous meningitis. Methods From April 2010 to September 2016,104 patients with tuberculous meningitis in our hospital were included in the study, and they were divided into two groups by drawing lots, with 52 cases in each group. The control group received anti-tuberculosis treatment plus dexamethasone and urokinase, while the observation group received the same treatment as the control group plus sodium aescinate. Both of the two groups were treated for 8 weeks. The clinical efficacy, cerebrospinal fluid cell count, protein content and intracranial pressure were compared between the two groups. Results In the observation group, 21 cases were markedly effective, 28 cases effective and 3 cases ineffective. In the control group,13 cases were markedly effective, 28 cases effective, and 11 cases ineffective. The effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group(P<0.05). The number of cerebrospinal fluid cells, protein content and intracranial pressure in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Sodium aesinate is effective in the treatment for the patients who received prior treatment of tuberculous meningitis. It can reduce the number of cerebrospinal fluid cells, protein content and intracranial pressure in the patients.
